Lesson 1: What is MHD-INT?

A planetary evolution lab on your computer

Download the handout (PDF, in Spanish) MHD-INT Free on GitHub

๐ŸŽฏ Objectives

  • Know what MHD-INT simulates and what it doesn't
  • Understand the model's parts and how they combine
  • Run your first simulation and interpret the MHI

๐Ÿงช Exercise

  1. Install the free version: github.com/rodneymora94965/MHD-INT_Pro_v5.2 (pip install -r requirements.txt).
  2. Run: streamlit run app_streamlit.py
  3. Simulate Earth with the default values and note the MHI.

โš ๏ธ Model limits

  • The screenshots are from the free version v5.2.2; STANDARD and PRO have more modes in the menu.
  • The simulation in this lesson uses the application's default values (5 billion years, 10,000-year step).

๐Ÿ“š References

  • MHD-INT Theoretical Framework (docs/MARCO_TEORICO.md in the repository).
  • Kopparapu et al. (2014) and Driscoll & Barnes (2015), cited in lessons 9 and 10.

The free version is enough for the whole course. MHD-INT STANDARD adds 300 planets, guided labs and reports; PRO adds 8 advanced modes.
